The CMA's head office is located in Sheffield and the organisation supports a development office in Scotland. The CMA was founded in 1983 and is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. It has a governing Council of 15 people elected by the membership and currently chaired by Phil Shepherd, Director of the Engine Room, a Community Media Centre in Bridgwater.
