'Making it work ' Learning
from successful Community Radio stations
Later in July the CMA will launch a groundbreaking report on sustainable
Community Radio. The report, prepared by CM Solutions, is based
on 5 case studies of successful Community Radio stations in the
UK and Europe and offers a useful set of guidelines for setting
up and running a sustainable Community Radio project. A wide variety
of stations are featured in the report including, 'Connemara Community
Radio' a station serving a small rural community in the Republic
of Ireland, 'Fr'quence Paris Plurielle' which broadcasts
across the French capital to a potential audience of 10 million
people and 'OOG Radio en Televisie' the cross media multiplatform
project from the Netherlands whose representatives delivered a
fascinating presentation at this year's Festival of Community
Media. UK examples are provided courtesy of Bradford Community
Broadcasting in West Yorkshire and Desi Radio in West London.
'Community Radio in a global context:
a comparative analysis in six countries'
Commissioned by the Community Media Association, written by Eryl
Price-Davies & Jo Tacchi.
The report gives an overview of Community Radio
in Australia, Canada, France, Holland, Ireland and South Africa.
By comparing and contrasting Community Radio in these countries
the report puts together specific recommendations related to the
development and implementation of the 'Access Radio' scheme in
the UK.
