Funding for Community Television

Funding and revenue for Community Television
A wide range of European, national, regional and local agencies support different Community Television services across the United Kingdom. There are however no dedicated funding streams for Community Television.

Self generated revenue for Community Television
A wide range of Community Television services are generating revenue through on-air advertising and sponsorship.  There are currently no restrictions on advertising and sponsorship revenue for Restricted Service Licence holders.

A Community Media Fund
Section 359 of the Communications Act 2003 says that Ofcom can make grants to Local Digital Television licensees.  It also enables the Secretary of State to introduce an Order that will enable Ofcom to make grants to Local Digital Television licensees.  The Community Media Association is working to ensure that dedicated funding for Community Television becomes a reality to support these new services in the Digital Age.
