Ofcom Awards Four New Community Radio Licences

Ofcom announced the award of four new community radio licences -to the following applicants:

- Amber Sound FM (Ripley, Amber Valley, Derbyshire)
- Erewash Sound (llkeston, Derbyshire)
- Tulip Radio (Spalding, South Holland , Lincolnshire )
- Takeover Radio (Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire)

Details of these new community radio licensees are as follows:

Amber Sound FM

Amber Sound FM will be a radio service dedicated solely to the Amber Valley in the heart of Derbyshire. Its main goal is to be a focal
point of community spirit and feeling, giving the people a station that they can call their own. It will become a reliable source for
community information, interests, issues and topics that directly affect people day-to-day in all corners of the area.

Erewash Sound

Erewash Sound will be presented and produced by local people. It will offer a dedicated community-orientated, comprehensive, relevant and
essential service playing an active part in local life, tackling issues which directly affect those living locally.
 
Ian Perry of Erewash Sound says "'Naturally, we're absolutely delighted and are still taking in the goodnews.  All the hard work has finally paid off, but we couldn't havedone it without the help and support of the businesses and community ofErewash,who have continued to support us since our inaugural broadcast in theSummer of 2005, and were of immense support during the actual licenceapplication process.   We look forward to bringing the station on-airfull time as soon as possible, but the people of Erewashdon't have to wait to listen to our output.  Our internet radio serviceis now over 12 months old, and is already being embraced by localpeople, offering a valuable service to local organisations, the publicat large and more besides, as a mere taste of what we'll be offeringwhen we launch a full-time FM service - JUST for Erewash".

Takeover Radio

Takeover Radio will entertain with a mix of popular music blended with exciting and refreshing speech, and interactive educational programme
making. It will be a truly young people's radio station with distinctive appeal, characterised by the unique involvement of the
young people it will serve, producing programming with energy, enthusiasm and originality.

Tulip Radio

Tulip Radio will serve those living and working within Spalding and surrounding areas of South Holland , Lincolnshire . The station will
act as a unifying voice across this sparsely populated area and will be accessible to all sections of the local community. It will keep
local people up-to-date with events and matters of local concern, providing them with opportunities to become involved in both the
operation and the management of the service.

Licences are awarded for a five-year period.

In addition to the licence awards detailed above, Ofcom considered one further application, from South Holland Radio in Whaplode,
Lincolnshire but decided not to award a licence to this group.

A statement setting out the main determining factors for the award of the four community radio licences referred to above will be available
shortly from the Ofcom website.
