10.15am: Paul Chantler – Legal and Compliance Workshop

Radio consultant Paul Chantler will address defamation, contempt and privacy with lots of audio and text examples and stories of things that have gone wrong in the past. This session is tailored for presenters and producers or journalists working in the UK. Compliance covers offensive and discriminatory language, the rules about running contests on air and the separation of advertising and editorial content as well as an outline of Ofcom, the way it works and the Broadcasting Code. The seminar will also include a discussion about the important issue of listener trust.

3:00pm:  Cormac Lawler will discuss Employability training and social media sharing resources and findings from two projects run by Radio Regen in collaboration with community radio stations and others. ‘Employment FM‘ evaluated employability training with different groups of disadvantaged young people.

The project has produced courses linked to qualifications, evaluation tools and other resources to help community radio stations deliver employability training. ‘Social Media for Community Radio’ explored how stations can make strategic use of social media, from enriching audience engagement to generating revenue. The talk will be aimed at how your station can make practical use of employability training and social media.
