Why become a member?
By joining the Community Media Association (CMA) you will support us in our strategic aim of strengthening the community media sector in the UK. We do this by lobbying Government for increased sector funding and fair music licensing fees and by representing community media interests to the DCMS and the wider media industry, and through forums such as the DCMS Listener Group, British Library Save Our Sounds, and the Digital Radio Stakeholders Group. The CMA also has significant connections to UK and international academics engaged with community media.
The CMA also delivers networking and training events to support community media groups in meeting new challenges, provides sector information and updates through extensive communication channels and provides advice and support to members online and by telephone on community media issues.
From time to time, CMA members may receive a range of benefits and discounts from selected partners and suppliers. These include reduced-price tickets to the annual Community Media Conference (the leading sector-specific conference in the UK).
The CMA also operates Canstream, a high-quality online media streaming service, which your project can use to start broadcasting to the world. For more information on Canstream Internet Radio & Video, click here.
The CMA Charter
All members of the Community Media Association are required to sign up to the Community Media Charter, a ten-point code of practice inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that embodies the principals of what community media is and its importance as the third tier of communications in the UK (alongside public broadcasting and the commercial sector).
