Ofcom is now inviting applications for community radio licences in Northern Ireland.
Most of the province has frequencies available, with the exception of Derry/Londonderry (defined as the Derry City Council area), where Drive 105 occupies the sole available frequency for community radio.
However, there are currently restrictions in place prohibiting prospective licensees in the following areas from taking on-air sponsorship and advertising:
These areas correspond with the Measured Coverage Areas of the Q Network of small commercial radio stations.
This is part of the third round of community radio licensing.
Applications have already been received from Wales and south west England and Scotland.
The full invitation for applications is available here. Applications close at 5pm on Thursday 7 June 2012.
