Estuary TV, the new local television service for Grimsby and surrounding areas of Lincolnshire and Humberside, is set to become the first such channel to launch when it goes on air tonight at 5:40pm.
The channel has been in operation on local cable for a number of years under the Channel 7 banner, but is now available to 370,000 homes across the region using standard terrestrial Freeview TV equipment on channel number 8.
Programmes including local news, talk shows, interviews, youth programming and local history will be featured on Estuary TV, who aim to provide a service accessible to all members of the local community.
19 licences were issued by Ofcom in the first round of local TV licensing, and these services are expected to appear on air during 2014. Further licences have been advertised by the regulator, in a total of 18 areas.
