Applicants for radio RSLs during June and July 2014 have been given a window of just one week to apply for their licences by regulator Ofcom.
The Ramadan period starts on 28 June and lasts for four weeks, and demand for short-term radio licences during this time is expected to be very high, based on previous years’ experience.
As in previous years, RSL applications will be placed in a competitive ‘draw’ where there are more applicants than available frequencies. In 2013, this included major urban areas such as London, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire.
The application window will last for five days, from Monday 13 to Friday 17 January. Applicants are advised that a fully completed application form will be required, along with cleared payment of the non-refundable application fee.
Applications for stations linked to Ramadan will also require a letter of support.
