On 17 December 2013, two members of CMA staff and a number of representatives from community radio stations and other interested organisations attended a presentation and meeting hosted by Ofcom.
The meeting follows a trial earlier this year of new small-scale, low-cost DAB multiplexing and transmission technology in Brighton. The trial was made possible by advances in SDR (Software-Defined Radio) technology and open-source DAB encoding and multiplexing software.
Following the Brighton trial, a report was published by the radio regulator, detailing the technology used, and assessing the coverage and other technical factors. You can read the report here.
Please see below the presentation from Ofcom to the CMA:
We would like to hear your comments on the potential of this technology to inform our future position on this. Please email your thoughts to the CMA at: info@commedia.org.uk.
