The first community radio station in the Channel Islands is set to launch, after radio regulator Ofcom announced the award of a licence to a station in Alderney.
Last year, new legislation was passed to enable community radio stations to launch in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which covers Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, and applications for these licences closed in March.
Quay FM has operated regular temporary RSL broadcasts each summer for over ten years, and now has the opportunity to broadcast to the 2,000 residents of Alderney for a five-year period. It is the first time the island has had a permanent local radio station.
The CMA would like to congratulate the team at Quay FM and wish the very best of luck in establishing their new, permanent service.
