+ Exeter’s community radio station to commission four audio portraits of the city
+ Proposals invited from the the city’s artistic community
+ A fee of £750 will be paid for each commissioned work

This September and October, England will host Rugby World Cup 2015. Three of the tournament’s matches will be played at the Sandy Park ground in Exeter.

With support from Exeter City Council, Phonic FM is inviting proposals for original creative audio portraits of Exeter and its communities, in some way exploring the reach and influence of the Rugby World Cup 2015 matches in the city.

These hour-long works will be broadcast on Phonic FM around the time of the matches at Sandy Park. They will also be posted online, shared with other broadcasters and deposited for posterity with various libraries and archives.

Four works will be commissioned. A fee of £750 will be paid for each commissioned work.

Artists from any background may put forward proposals. Indeed, proposals from artists who have no previous experience of sound and broadcast as a medium are encouraged. Phonic FM volunteers (with production, recording and editing skills) will be available to assist the selected artists in the planning and production of their works. Access to portable recording equipment and computers equipped with editing software, along with basic training, can be provided.

The full details and a proposal form are available at phonic.fm/rugbystories.

The deadline for proposals is 5pm BST on Friday 5 June 2015. Four proposals will be selected by an invited panel of arts, broadcast and community representatives, to be developed into hour-long works for broadcast this autumn.
