Ofcom seeks views on a number of proposed changes to the localness guidelines for local commercial radio stations.
The current guidelines were last substantially revised in 2010, and in light of the ongoing pace of change in the media sector, Ofcom has reviewed the current guidelines. This has included some new consumer research.
Ofcom is proposing amendments to the following aspects of the localness guidelines:
- the ‘approved areas’ within which programmes are considered to be locally-made;
- the minimum number of locally-made hours each station should provide, and when these programmes should be scheduled.
